A Glimpse Into Our Church History

Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church was organization November 22, 1964, in the home of  Rev. and Sis. Elick Patterson, consisting of 5 members. On October 28, 1965, the chruch moved to a store front at 825 N. Barclay Street. In 1972, Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Chruch went from the store front to a new church. In 1991, the mortgage was paid in full. After 38 years of ministry, on November 14, 2000, the Lord called Pastor Patterson home. Soon after, God answered our prayers and sent to us Rev. Lovie Caldwell and his lovely wife Linda. Rev. Caldwell was elected interim Pastor on Febuary 1, 2001 and preached his first sermon as Pastor on the first Sunday in May of that same year.

Pastor Caldwell has demonstrated by example, his care for our spiritual well-being with his love, leadership ability, preaching, teaching, and a vision for the future. Pastor Caldwell is a leader whose character reflects his love for God and we thank God for him. In 2003, Pastor Caldwell, in honor of Rev. and Sis. Patterson being founders of this church, led the way in having the "Rachael Patterson Library and Learning Center" constructed adjacent to the "Elick Patterson Fellowship Hall" on the lower level. Also in 2003, under Pastor Caldwell, the church purchased the parsonage across the street from the church at 415 Newell Street.

As we look back at the Founder of this church and the Successor, all Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church can say is, "Down through the years, God has been good." He brought us and He will carry us on and we give Him all the praise.

On January 14, 2016 under the  watch of Pastor Caldwell, and the fund raising committee consisting of; Deacon E.C. Pugh, Sis. Purline Robinson, Sis. Helen Jordan-Killings, Sis. Clara Wright, Bro. David Segbee, and Sis. Felicia Jordan, the church launched its first website.  This website will use the world wide web as a platform to expand our teaching and fellowship of God's word further than just the physical confines of our church and our community. As our congregation and our ambitions grow larger we plan to also expand the size of our physical church to accommodate this growth. We are currently fund raising  to gain funds to construct a new building.
